Trying too hard?

10 Sep

“One of the first things to go when people are trying to keep up an appearance of perfection is a sense of humor. People who are trying too hard can’t laugh. And they especially can’t laugh at themselves.”

~ Comedian Ken Davis*

UnsmilingDog“I won’t smile … you can’t make me! OK, just a little.”

Whenever I (Dawn) ha’ve taken myself too seriously, I can’t laugh. And most of the “crises” I brought into my life through mistakes that I thought were so monumental really didn’t matter at all. It’s important to keep life in perspective. We all make mistakes. None of us are perfect. We’ll all face tough circumstances, too. Don’t think you’re the only one.

We need to “own” who we are and accept (and even laugh) at our little quirks. Who cares if someone laughs at our idiosyncrasies if we’re being the person God created us to be?

God made you to be a unique expression of His creativity (Psalm 139:13-16; Job 10:8), not a carbon copy of anyone ~ not even your parents! He broke the mold when He designed you. You are marvelously complex in your gifts, personality, abilities, and motivation. You are designed for a unique purpose. And no one has quite the same experiences as you. Don’t even think about comparing yourself to others! (2 Cor. 10:12)

So go ahead and laugh. You are secure in God’s love , and created for His glory (Isaiah 43:7). You don’t have to be perfect. You just need to be wonderful you!
